IN SCIENCE: Oct. 19-21, 2011 - Students will be learning about Dichotomous Keys which is part of Scientific Classifications. There will be no homework. However, by Friday, we will have completely created at least one dichotomous key and possible two.

IN SOCIAL STUDIES: Oct. 19-21, 2011 - Wednesday, students will review Middle East Cultures and Geography by creating a graphic organizer using folders and Post It notes. Thursday we will review South and East Asia in the same fashion. Friday, we will finish our narrative writing assignment in class.

Monday, Oct. 24th, we will review for a test on African Culture and Literacy.

Tuesday, Oct. 25th, we will test on African Culture and Literacy. Students have their graphic organizer folders in their possession to help them study.

News and Events

This year our Science classes will be going on two field trips; Tuesday, Nov. 15th, 2011 will be Providence Canyon. We will be leaving the school at 8:00 a.m. and returning at approximately 4:00 p.m. Bag lunches will be supplied by our cafeteria (using the students lunch numbers). The permission slips were sent home early last week and were due today. We will still accept permission slips for the next few school days. The cost is $5.00 per person. (This covers the cost of gas and school bus drivers)

The second trip will be to Grand Bay located in Valdosta. The trip is scheduled for Jan. 10th and 11th (Mrs. Fletcher's team) and Jan. 12th and 13th (Coach Williams' team)

Assignments

Social Studies:

In class, we are working on a culminating writing assignment. The students will chose to focus their writing assignment on Middle East Culture, Southern and Eastern Culture, or African Culture. Their writing will include the following: Introduction, 1st paragraph - minimum two complete thoughts about the physical (geographical) characteristics, 2nd paragraph - minimum two complete thoughts about ethnic groups from this culture, 3rd paragraph - minimum two complete thoughts about the religion(s), 4th paragraph - How has the literacy rate in this area affected you and your journey? Finally, a conclusion. We started this on October 13th. We will finish this on Friday of next week (in-class). Students should review their notes to develop their ideas.

Students will have a review day on Monday, Oct. 24th and the end of this section test on Tuesday, Oct. 25th.
