Accelerated Reader Program

Let Reading Take You .... Out of this World!

Accelerated Reader is an integral part of the overall reading program at North Brooks.  This program promotes the value of independent reading.  The following are guidelines for the AR program at NBES.

  1. Each students has an individual reading range and points goal.
  2. The reading range and goal are determined by the student's grade equivalent score on the STAR test.
  3. The STAR test is given at least 3 times during the year, so a student's reading range and goal may change throughout the school-year.
  4. Individual rewards are given at the end of each term to students by his/her teacher who have earned 100% of their AR points and have an AR comprehension score of 85% or better.
  5. 2nd - 5th grade students- if a student meets his/her AR goal with 85% accuracy for each nine weeks he/she  will be invited to the End of the Year Accelerated Reader Luau.
  6. The top four students with the highest points and 85% or above accuracy on their AR tests will earn a trip to Fox's Pizza in Valdosta.
  7. Classes that have been below 30% "At Risk" all year will received a pizza party at the end of the year.

Welcome to North Brooks Elementary School Media Center!

We enjoy serving students and staff with resources and books that help create a lifelong love for learning.  We have 9,000 books available for circulation and books available for Accelerated Reader  (AR) tests. 

The Media Center is open everyday.  Students are able to check out  books for seven days and can be renewed twice.  Books must be within a student's AR reading range until he/she has met his/her goal for the nine weeks.   Students should take good care of their library books and keep up with them.  If a book(s) is lost, that student cannot check out any more books from the Media Center until the book(s) are returned or paid for.  If the book(s) are returned and in good condition, a full refund will be given.   Payment for damaged books must be made before a student can receive his/her report card.  (For more information about Media Policies visit our policy section of our Brooks County website- policies tab; I Instructional Program; Code IFBC Media Programs.)
