North Brooks Elementary
NBES Music Program Named an “All Star School”
North Brooks Elementary School has been named a National Anthem Project "All Star" School by the National Association for Music Education. During the month of September, all of the music classes at North Brooks participated in patriotic music activities. September marked the anniversary of the writing of the Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key in 1814. In grades 2-5, the students learned the words to this historical song, proper Anthem etiquette, and the history behind the National Anthem. On National Anthem Day, September 14, all of the 4th and 5th graders stood around the flag pole and sang the National Anthem. Music teacher, Lee Cain, submitted a summary of the school's activities to the "The National Anthem Project" and was thrilled to have the school recognized. Pictured are a group of very patriotic North Brooks 5th graders.
Celebrating Pre-K Week in Brooks
The week of October 3-7 has been declared Pre-K week throughout Georgia. To help kick-off the week Mayor L. E. Godwin of Morven visited the Pre-K classes at North Brooks Elementary. He toured the classrooms and met with Tonya Gregory and Carol Fields’ Pre-K classes. The students learned about his duties as Mayor of Morven and then they shared with him some of their favorite things they do in Pre-K. On Tuesday, Mayor Curtis Pickels will be visiting the Pre-K classes at Quitman Elementary. Pre-K is an educational program for 4 year old children funded by the Georgia Lottery. Since the program started in Georgia over 1 million children have been served. Quitman Elementary serves 66 children and North Brooks Elementary serves 44 children in their Pre-K programs. NBES Pre-K and a Potbelly Pig Named Darla
Tonya Gregory and Carol Field’s Pre-K classes from North Brooks Elementary traveled to Spring Acres Farm for a tour of the farm. The owners of Spring Acres Farms have hosted a field trip for Pre-K students for the past several years. The students went on a hayride where they saw many kids (baby goats). They were able to ride a miniature horse named “Chief” and in the barn they all met “Darla,” the potbelly pig. The students also visited with show cows, show goats, chickens and bunny rabbits. The highlight was being able to feed some of the animals and help milk a goat named “Brownie.” After the farm tour the students stopped by the Brooks County Public Library where Ms. Laura Harrison read to the children a book about a farm. Then the students, teachers and parents had a picnic at Veteran Park before returning to school. Pictured are all the students with the owners of Spring Acres Farm.
