Brooks County is rich with history and great people! Quitman, Morven, Barwick, Pavo, Barney and Dixie are the communities you will find in Brooks County. The county population is 16,460. The economy is based on manufacturing, agriculture and tourism making Brooks County a stable environment to settle. Brooks County is one of the largest dairy counties in the state and one of the largest cotton prodcuting counties in the state. Residents of Brooks County enjoy strawberries, blueberries, peaches and peanuts picked fresh from the fields and sol throughout the county at vegetable and fruit stands. Area festivals celebrate our farmin hertiage throughout the year. The Peach Festival in Morven and Peacock Festival in Pavo attract crowds each year from South Georgia and North Flordia. The area is known for its rivers lakes, hunting and golf courses.
Quitman, the county seat, has a population of 5,034 and was founded in 1859. One of our points of pride is being one of the largest Historic Districts in the nation. Quitman has fast become one of the premier antique shopping communities in South Georgia, and has recently added a second industrial park. The new 250-acre industrial park is ready for business with rail service and close proximity to U.S. Highway 84, Interstate 75, and Interstate 10.
