System Top Spellers
Congratulations to our System Spelling Bee Winner Jeannie Williams of North Brooks Elementary School. Williams, a fourth grader, was her school’s runner-up. The system runner-up was North Brooks Elementary School’s winner, Shannon Griffin (5th grade). These two young ladies will compete at region. BCHS Seniors Receive Scholarships
to Mercer
Three Brooks County High School seniors have received scholarships to attend Mercer University this fall. The seniors are Stevie Williams who will major in Pharmacy, Paula Stewart who plans to pursue a nursing degree and Aaron Shipman who will be attending on a baseball scholarship will major in Education. System Black History Programs
“Education is the Key to Unlocking the Future” was this
year’s theme at Brooks County High School’s Black History Program. Students who participated in the program were
Jatonia Kitchen, Danielle Belle, Paula Stewart, Sunari Robinson, and Andrew
Jackson, Jr. The student body was inspired by poems, music and special guest
speaker Willie Spears. An educator
himself, Willie Spears challenged students stay in school and strive to always
do their best. Spears’ quick wit and
inspirational stories kept students and staff entertained. Pictured

The theme for this year’s Brooks County Middle School Black History Program was “My
History + Your History = Our
History …American History.” The students who participated in the program
were Devin Rowland, Ashley Howard, Shunia Williams, Billy Holmes, Angel Payne,
and Alexia Gosier, Two special student groups, “Men of Purpose” performed a
step dance and “Leading Ladies” performed a dance for the students and staff. Students were inspired by the reading of
poems, music, dance and by the special inspirational guest speaker, Chaplain J.
Patrick Miller. Pictured here are dancers with the Leading Ladies team led by BCMS
Graduation Coach Inez Turner.
Richard L. Hadley, a board member of the Jack Hadley Black
History Museum in Thomasville, was the Black History speaker at the
Academic Enhancement Program’s Black History Program. Mr. Hadley shared
many black history facts, played several songs and introduced the students to
many handmade instruments that were used in Africa and during slavery
time. Pictured here are students in the program with Program Director Tara Moss
holding some of the handmade instruments.
